Queen gives hidden nod to Meghan Markle with special visit next week

THE QUEEN is to visit Cheshire next week in special nod to Meghan Markle who visited the county for her first royal engagement alongside Her Majesty, just weeks after marrying Prince Harry. The Queen will travel to the county on Thursday March 19 where she will visit the world-famous Jodrell Bank Observatory in Macclesfield to celebrate it becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site.At Jodrell, a leading radio astronomy observatory, the Queen will operate the Lovell Telescope, the world’s third largest steerable telescope. She’ll also be given a talk on how the observatory influences our understanding of the universe.

During the visit, the Queen, 92, will visit the Bentley Motors factory in Crewe to mark the manufacturers centenary. She will also meet schoolchildren and unveil a plaque to commemorate the day.The theme of the trip is somewhat different to when the Queen and Meghan visited. The pair visited Cheshire on June 14, 2018, to open Mersey Gateway Bridge that stretches 2.2.km long. The Duchess of Sussex and Harry’s grandmother travelled overnight to Runcorn Station by Royal Train. Upon disembarking, they were greeted by the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, David Briggs, who said to Meghan: “I understand it is your first trip to the north of England. To which she replied: “That’s correct. I’m very happy to be here.”.As her first public introduction to The Firm, Meghan rose to the task, telling dignitaries their new bridge was “marvellous”, and sharing married life insights with well-wishers by declaring Harry is “the best husband ever”.In a display of support, the Queen gave Meghan a pair of pearl earrings for the day. The then 36-year-old looked elegant in a custom made cream fitted dress with a cape feature at the shoulders made by her wedding dress designer, Givenchy. The Queen wore a lime green ensemble by Stewart Parvin, some interpreted it as a gesture of support for the Grenfell Tower victims on the anniversary of the disaster that saw 72 people lose their lives. The pair appeared close throughout the day, talking, laughing and joking, as they watched a seven-minute-long dance performance by children at the opening of the bridge.Andrew Curphey, whose theatre company brought the children together for the show, said of the Duchess: “She was really calm considering it was her first official engagement with the boss. She is with the boss so no pressure.”.

During the day the pair also led crowds in a minute’s silence to mark one year since the Grenfell Tower fire, visited Ashgrove Farm day nursery and “digital buddies” for elderly people mastering digital technologies. The Queen was dealt a blow when Prince Harry and Meghan announced plans to step down as senior royals in January this year, and has been embroiled in handling the couple’s exit from royal life. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had hoped to continue working for the Queen in a reduced capacity after Megxit but were forced to give up their roles and titles completely from the end of March.

Chamisa's lawyer spoke out about Mnangagwa's fraud evidence during the election

OPPOSITION MDC leader Nelson Chamisa will launch a renewed bid to oust President Emmerson Mnangagwa by seeking to have the Constitutional Court (ConCourt) review its own judgment based on “new evidence.”.Chamisa’s lawyer Thabani Mpofu said after studying academic works on the elections published by self-exiled former minister Jonathan Moyo, they were now making efforts to have the judgment on the 2018 presidential elections set aside. The country’s top court ruled that Chamisa had failed to prove allegations of fraud during the presidential election, a vote which left the nation polarised and violence on the streets of the capital Harare.Mpofu said the basis of approaching the ConCourt was because they now believe that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) presented to the courts false information and, therefore, their call for the judgment to be set aside.“The general rule is that once a final judgment or order has been given, the judge who gave it or any other judge of parallel juri...
