Princess Beatrice could become 'acting Monarch' as coronavirus grips the British royals.Queen Elizabeth has moved out of the capital to Winsdor, fleeing Buckingham Palace for the safety of the country. As royal insiders have said it's likely the Queen will stay there while the UK is in the grip of the crisis, this may force the Regency Act 1937 to come into play, to create a sixth Counsellor, according to Royal Central. The current Counsellors of State are the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge, the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of York. However, as people over 70 have been advised to self-isolate in the UK, which would count Charles, 71, and Philip, 98, out of the running, a younger royal would need to step up..
Prince William would likely stay out of isolation and continue to be a working Counsellor. However, if two Counsellors are required and only one is available then Parliament may have to amend the Regency Act.With Prince Harry out of the country, this role is likely to go to Princess Beatrice of York who is ninth in line to the throne.Tasks undertaken by Counsellors and the sovereign include granting royal assent, issuing royal proclamations, appointing judges and Queen’s Counsel.Princess Beatrice will only be able to have two guests at her wedding if the coronavirus crisis continues. The Church of England has said the number of people attending church weddings during the outbreak should be limited to the legal minimum of five - the priest, the bride and groom and two witnesses. The Queen's granddaughter and her fiance Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi have already cancelled their reception, which was due to take place in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.Beatrice and millionaire property tycoon Edo said on Wednesday that they still plan to wed on May 29, but were looking at whether a private marriage with a small group of family and friends would be feasible. The news comes after the Queen broke her silence amid the coronavirus pandemic on Thursday. Her Majesty shared a statement and assured the public "that my family and I stand ready to play our part".The statement read: "As Philip and I arrive at Windsor today, we know that many individuals and families across the United Kingdom, and around the world, are entering a period of great concern and uncertainty."We are all being advised to change our normal routines and regular patterns of life for the greater good of the communities we live in and, in particular, to protect the most vulnerable within them."At times such as these, I am reminded that our nation's history has been forged by people and communities coming together to work as one, concentrating our combined efforts with a focus on the common goal.We are enormously thankful for the expertise and commitment of our scientists, medical practitioners and emergency and public services; but now more than any time in our recent past, we all have a vitally important part to play as individuals - today and in the coming days, weeks and months."Many of us will need to find new ways of staying in touch with each other and making sure that loved ones are safe. I am certain we are up to that challenge. You can be assured that my family and I stand ready to play our part
The Queen's statement comes after growing concerns for her safety.Earlier this week it was revealed the royal was fleeing London for Windsor as the Coronavirus pandemic worsens in the UK.A palace spokesman said: "As a sensible precaution and for practical reasons in the current circumstances, a number of changes are being made to The Queen’s diary."Her Majesty will move to Windsor Castle for the Easter period on Thursday 19th March, one week earlier than planned. It is likely The Queen will stay there beyond the Easter period."In consultation with the Medical Household and Government, a number of public events with large numbers of people due to have been attended by The Queen, and other Members of the Royal Family, in the coming months will be cancelled or postponed.
