ZDF speaks out. .Traditional leaders in Masvingo have been implored to safeguard the country from culture invasion as this contributes to the deterioration of Zimbabwe’s values and norms.

The message came out during the Masvingo Province 2019 traditional leaders’ day held at 4 Infantry Brigade.The guest of honour at the event, Inspector General Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Major General Kasirai Tazira urged traditional leaders to continue enlightening the people on the importance of the country’s culture.


He emphasized that due to globalization, young people are adopting western cultures whilst abandoning their values and norms, ‘We have certain problems in the country with our children due to influence they get from the media.I urge traditional leaders to teach people in their respective areas as they are influential people as well as leaders of those people,” he said.Masvingo Minister of State for provincial affairs,

Cde Ezra Chadzamira commended the relationship between the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and traditional leaders saying it was cemented during the liberation struggle and has withstood the test of time.“The relationship between the army and traditional leaders has always been there since the first and second chimurenga.

I would like to thank the army for maintaining this relationship,” he said.Chairperson of the Masvingo province chief’s council, Chief Chitanga applauded government for improving the traditional leaders welfare over the years.


“As traditional leaders, we want to thank the government for putting forward ZUPCO buses in our areas and we know.that as we are approaching the rain season, the government will assist us in terms of farming inputs so that we are not affected by drought,” said chief Chitanga.’The 2019 Masvingo Province traditional leaders’ day ran under the theme, ‘Dedicated to preserve, promote and safeguard Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage, national values and hunhu/Ubuntu’.
